Was mögt ihr lieber? Taschenbuch oder Hardcover? #callmebyyourname #cmbyn #peach #andreaciman #elioandoliver #dtv #love #LGBT #nature #bookstagram #igreads #instabook #bookporn #booksofinstagram #readersofig #bibliophile #womenandbooks #booklove #lesen #livingwithbooks #buchliebe #bücherwurm #ilovebooks #meandmybooks #read #reading #ilovereading

Do you prefer Greek or Roman #mythology? Personally I prefer Greek but I love how both were integrated into this second series in the #PercyJackson universe, #HeroesofOlympus. • Bonus question: If you had to put ME into a cabin at #CampHalfBlood, which would you pick? Which Godly parent do you think would claim me? • I am so pleased that it is Friday! Phew. It's been such a long week for me but I think it's also been a successful one in many ways. Not the least of which is FINALLY sorting out my new bookshelf! I had given up my small shelf for my little one to have her books on so I didn't actually have my own bookcase any more! Thankfully it arrived this week and BFF helped me to build it so now my books are now out of piles and if you want a sneak peek of how I'm coming along organising my shelves you can have a look in my story. • @bookish_anna tagged me to do the #bookisheyes tag and I finally have a picture with eyes on the cover to qualify! • @reemofbookingdom tagged me to do the #spellthemonthinbooks tag: J -Just One of the Royals - The Chicago Falcon series by Leah and Kate Roper U - Unleash the Storm - Steel and Stone Series by Annette Marie L - Lady Midnight - The Dark Artifices Series by Cassandra Clare Y - Yield the Night - Steel and Stone Series by Annette Marie • #bookish #bookstagram #bookdragon #instabooks #bookworm #booknerd #booklover #bookstagrammer #bookgram #booksofinstagram #bookaholic #bookaddict #reader #booklove #bibliophile #bookaddiction #bookblogger #readersofig #readersofinstagram #bookgrammer #bookbloggersofig #bookbloggersofinstagram #booknerdigans

This wonderful strange little book by George Saunders that won the 2017 Man Booker prize has been on my radar for a while now, and, if I’m being honest, despite it’s having won the Man Booker I was more than a little sceptical about it because it seemed to me that it stood on its avant-garde element alone, which I wasn’t sure would even work for me. Oh, but how Saunders made it work! Daring to combine historical fiction, academic writing, prose fiction, and elements of the Gothic, as well as the Surreal, Saunders writes a strange story with Abraham Lincoln, his son, Willie, and a cemetery crowded with a horde of spirits caught in the Bardo, a sort of limbo, which, for various reasons, they still cling on to instead of escaping to an afterlife. Giving voice in his narrative to too many characters to name, not to forget the many, often contradictory, voices and narratives that he quotes, what Saunders seems to be doing reminds me both of Mikhail Bakhtin’s dialogical principle, letting in a plurality of consciousnesses with their multitude of meanings, as well as of something Roland Barthes says in his essay ‘The Death of the Author’: “The text is a tissue of quotations drawn from the innumerable centres of culture … the writer can only imitates a gesture that is always anterior, never original. His only power is to mix writings, to counter the ones with the others, in such a way as never to rest on any of them.” Saunders, of course, is not quite getting at what Barthes was saying, but it does seem to shed some light on his unique perspective on what is, on one level at least, historical fiction. But formal daring is not all that makes Lincoln in the Bardo the powerful, Man Booker winning book that it is. Somehow he also manages to infuse this experimental work with so much humanity and compassion it seems to be a force in and of itself keeping the book afloat. The way Saunders fleshes out his characters’ emotions is extraordinary, and if it sometimes feels a tad bit too sentimental that doesn’t take away from what he achieves through the book. And what he achieves is something I’m failing to find apt enough words for. You just have to read it to know.

Have you read the Bartimaeus trilogy? I read them many years ago when I still lived in Sweden. I remember thinking wow when I read them, this is brilliant. The other day I found all three books on eBay and they were going cheap so I bidded and won! £4.50 for all three. What a bargain. Can’t wait to re read them, gonna start today. Hope you have a nice day 💕

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 meritate. - ❓conoscete questo libro?✨ . . . . . . . . . . #bookstagrammer #bookstagram #bookish #bookworm #bookporn #booknerd #booknerdigan #booklover #readers #readersofig #reading #libridaleggere #libri #bookphotography #bookquotes #bookstagramfeature #currentlyreading #yafantasy #instalibri #bookmark #library #bookgeek #bookaddict #bookaholic #bibliophile
